What we did for the Colorado Attorney General’s Race

Sampson PR managed the overall communications strategy for one of the top jobs in Colorado government.  The key role for the nation’s state AGs is to serve as the state’s top cop. Therefore, educating the public and media about the candidate’s position on the topics related to important legal issues was critical to a successful campaign. Influencers across a broad spectrum of political backgrounds publicly expressed their support through endorsements, letters to the editor and op-eds.

It was our role to manage the daily news cycle and respond to what was trending on a given day. Managing media advance efforts for upcoming campaign stops was successfully orchestrated in all Colorado’s 64 counties with desk side meetings in those communities to provide discussions with local citizens and secure media coverage in each county.

We prepared the candidate for media interviews, developed briefing packets; wrote and distributed news releases, wrote and pitched byline opinion pieces; and responded to controversial, complex and sensitive media inquiries.

Preparing talking points for dozens of debates and holding Q & A sessions was an important way to stay on message and provide accurate information about dozens of legal and policy issues from the nation’s opioid epidemic to Colorado’s black-market marijuana industry.

As a result of our work, we secured an average of 5-10 stories per week with coverage extending throughout all of Colorado, and in top-tier national media. All of Colorado’s major newspapers endorsed our candidate, with key law enforcement agencies and sheriffs following suit.
